The Dordogne is a great place to visit, especially in lovely sunny weather. But we can’t have nonstop sun and dry weather, sometimes it rains. Is there something to do when the weather is not so nice? you ask, and what if rains dogs and cats or as the French would say “il pleut des cordes” (rain ropes) ?
Well, if you stay with us in Hillside Park there is no problem at all!
You can start your day with warm croissant, chocolatine or classic french bread from the baker across the road and then you can take a swim in our heated indoor swimming pool (28dgr minimum) or the sauna. We have a well equipped gym, or for something less strenuous enjoy a game of darts, play Karom or other social games.
If you want to continue your day indoors, a typical périgourdine lunch could be arranged for you otherwise you can just pop down to the local restaurant 5 minutes by car.
This also applies to dinner. If you choose one of the more distant restaurants, a taxi can be arranged for you, so you can enjoy a drink with your meal without worrying about being stopped by the gendarmes (local police).
Bad weather and also when it’s a little too hot becomes an ideal time for visiting caves, grottes and museums. We are lucky to live just 10 minutes from the famous Lascaux caves, Grotte de Tourtoriac is 28minutes drive and many others are within a 40km radius. For the museums let’s mention the Bovetti Chocolats in Terrasson (5 mins), Vine and wine museum – Musee du Chai de Lardimalie in St Pierre de Chignac and Eco-museum of the Perigord Walnut.
If you decide to end the day lazing in front of the TV, we have a list of over 800 films on DVD from which you can choose and watch in the comfort of your own cottage, a lovely glass of wine accompanied by some good cheese, paté and baguette…mmm! … life is good here in the Dordogne
